The fact there is so much information available on the internet, has led to a lot of conversation, buzz, and misconceptions about various plumbing practices.

Please see below for our guide to correcting and explaining 5 of the biggest plumbing myths that exist in the industry right now:

1. A faucet that drips isn’t a big deal.

Over time it can add up and waste many gallons of water each day.   Do you want your money going down the drain? Have a plumber come and fix it and save you money and water!

2. Clearing a clog is easy – just pour a liquid drainer

When there is a clog it is easy to pour down drain cleaner. Most liquid drainers have dangerous chemicals and do not always eat away at the clog but can at the same time damage your pipes. Let a professional plumber assess the job and repair it.

3. Water Heaters are ready to explode if you hear a loud gurgling noise.

What is probably happening is the sediment from hard water is being moved around inside the water heater near the burner and this is causing the loud noises. Have a plumber drain and flush your water heater on a regular basis. Water heaters last from six to 10 years.

4. Lemons are great at cleaning your garbage disposal

The lemon smell may help the agronomic but it does not clean your pipes.  The lemon pealing may clog your drains.  The best way to clean is with soap and warm water.  To clean the inside of the grinder you may consider putting a cup of ice down the disposal once a month.

5. In-Tank Toilet Cleaners Help

Every flush may look clean but these in-tank cleaners do have a lot of bleach and this can corrode the inner walls of your water tank. Instead of tablets we recommend hanging toilet cleaners in the bowl as they can get the job done.
